In MusicLexis the categorization of lexical items into levels is based on the English Vocabulary Profile listings. [http://vocabulary.englishprofile.org/] The EVP shows, in both British and American English, which words and phrases learners around the world know at each level - A1 to C2 - of the CEFR. [http://www.coe.int/t/dg4/linguistic/cadre1_en.asp] In cases where the EVP does not specify the level of a lexical item, the item is assigned an approximate level in MusicLexis.
